BREAKING NEWS:
US SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS
OREGON ASSISTED SUICIDE LAW
WASHINGTON DC - The US Supreme
Court in a 6-3 vote, upheld the Oregon assisted suicide state law.
The Oregon state law has been used to end the lives of more than 200 seriously
ill people that the US Department of Justice said was in violation of federal
authority to regulate doctors. The high court's decision has major impact
on legislation pending (AB 651 by Assemblymember Patty Berg) that calls for
implementing a similar law in California. That bill is in the Senate
Judiciary Committee, though no hearing date has been set yet.
More
details on this ruling in a later CDCAN report today.
