BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE HEARINGS NOT YET
RELEASED
SACRAMENTO - The California State Senate has scheduled several
budget hearings where many of Gov. Schwarzenegger's major budget proposals for
the July 2006-June 2007 state budget year impacting people with
disabilities and seniors will be heard and acted on during the coming months.
All dates, subjects, times and room
locations in the State Capitol are subject to change and are considered at this
point tentative.
In
addition, the Senate Budget Subcommittee #3 on Health and Human Services,
chaired by Sen. Denise Ducheny (D-San Diego) will likely, in the coming
months, also hear of the impact to California regarding the recent passage
by the US Congress of legislation - called the "Deficit Reduction Act" that will
require the states to make massive changes to their Medicaid programs. The
other members of the Senate Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services are
Sen. Wes Chesbro (D-Arcata), who also chairs the full Senate Budget Committee,
and Sen. George Runner (R-Lancaster).
Assembly Budget
Subcommittee Hearing Dates Not Yet Released
The Assembly has not yet
released its schedule of any budget hearing for its budget subcommittees.
The full Assembly Budget Committee, chaired by Assemblymember John Laird
(D-Santa Cruz) is scheduled to meet February 15, Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM
in the State Capitol, Room 4202 for its traditional first meeting of the year
for an overview of the proposed budget for July 2006-June 2007. Normally
no actions are taken by the committee or public testimony is given at these
hearings.
The Senate Budget Committee, chaired by Sen. Wes
Chesbro (D-Arcata), which held its first meeting in late January, did take the
unusual step of voting on one item - rejecting the Governor's proposal to extend
for another 15 months beginning April 2007, the withholding of the federal cost
of living increase for SSI'/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental
Payment) recipients who are low income people with developmental and other
disabilities and seniors.
