CA BUDGET HEARING UPDATE

SENATE EDUCATION BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE SETS HEARINGS
* ASSEMBLY EDUCATION BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE ALSO SETS DATES
* NO ASSEMBLY HEARING DATES YET ON HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES
* DATES & ROOMS ARE TENTATIVE - COULD CHANGE

SACRAMENTO -  The State Senate Budget Subcommittee #1 on Education, chaired by Sen. Jack Scott (D-Altadena, 21st District) and its counterpart in the Assembly chaired by Assemblymember Mervyn Dymally (D-Compton, 52nd District) has scheduled several budget hearings through May,including at least two that will have a focus on special education, state special schools or the high school exit examination. 

Changes Since Last CDCAN Report On Budget Hearings

* No changes or additions to Senate Budget Subcommittee #3 on Health and Human Services hearings set last week for budget items and issues related to health and human services to consider Gov. Schwarzenegger's major budget proposals for the July 2006-June 2007 state budget impacting people with disabilities and seniors.
* The Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services, chaired by Assemblymember Hector De La Torre (D-Southgate, 50th District) has not released its schedule of any budget hearings yet.
* Additional hearings by Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance on education issues will be scheduled
* All dates, subjects, times and room locations in the State Capitol for all hearings are subject to change and are considered at this point tentative. 
* In addition, the budget subcommittees in both houses on Health and Human Services will likely,  in the coming months,  also hear of the impact to California regarding the recent passage by the US Congress of legislation - called the "Deficit Reduction Act" that will require the states to make massive changes to their Medicaid programs.

FEB 21, 1PM to 2:45 PM, sponsored by California NAELA and Santa Barbara County's CHANCE Inc (a housing coalition for people with developmental disabilities) on Medi-Cal issues, including update on SB 912, brief update on Medicare Part D, and major focus on impact of passage of the federal "Deficit Reduction Act" and its impact on Medi-Cal, and people with developmental and other disabilities and seniors, their families, workers, organizations.  Will feature officials from California Department of Health Services, including Stan Rosenstein, head of the state's Medi-Cal program.  Townhall telemeetings are free - and a means for people with disabilities, seniors, their families, workers, organizations and other advocates to participate in policy making no matter where they are.  CDCAN says it is part of their "Advocacy without borders" program.
